Weber is sending to me all the components (I think) to upgrade from the gen 1 to the gen 2.. The only item I am not certain about is the glow plug. The order confirm shows the SF21, but the order tracking indicates that part is no longer available, so I don't know if they are sending one or not (I sent an inquiry but haven't heard back). When I was looking to see if there is an upgraded glow plug, the Weber glow plug has terrible reviews, but I don't see a different offering. Is the current glow plug still an issue or is there another one out there (after market?) that I should be looking for? Is Weber ditching the current glow plug for something new?

The glow plug itself isn’t an issue, but it’s the assembly that holds it. It shorts out and fries plugs for some people. I used mine for 6-7 months several times a week (at least until the crappy firmware update came that made it frustrating to use) and never had it fail. Some people have used a hose clamp to make sure the little ground prong stays in contact with the plug base.
