Ive had my rec tec for around 3 years now, probably burned a couple tons of pellets in it. The fact of the matter is, it still cooks at the set temp dead on, never has had a flame out, makes excellent smoke flavor and is as reliable as it possibly can be. 40lb hopper means you can cook anything w/o adding pellets. There are plenty of goodies to personalize it and guess what, I still jhave 3 years of my warranty left

You are correct the second shelf is not an option. I have been looking at that mod and have seen a couple out there but didn't care for the way they were set up. I may have to make my own if I feel the need. I would rather put my energy into getting my "Stick Burner" as the Rec Tec does everything for my family well as it is.

I can't believe it's not an option. They appear to have plenty of headroom.

I own a Rec Tec & I love it!! Constructed very well. Excellent customer Service. I hardly use my oven at all. I do wish they would add a 2nd. shelf inside.

I bought a "brand x" pellet bbq at season's end a few years ago; it was a discontinued display model (no assembly required). It is a convenience but I can't add anything to the pellet bbq reviews by Meathead, Max & company. I was warned about the shortcomings of my model and have no regrets. When I want flavor over convenience, I bbq on an inexpensive charcoal smoker with water (with a not inexpensive BBQGuru controller).
On other bbq web sites, those who have bought a certain brand seem to lose their objectivity and become cheerleaders.
I never eat a BBQ joint without finding out about their cooker; the good ones are always proud to explain it. I once ate at a Texas joint recommended on this site and they had moved their cooker off-site because the updated fire code no longer allowed wood fires in the historical building in which they leased space.

Latest from UPS is that it will be delivered Tuesday by the end of the day. I will start a new thread on receiving the unit and cover setting it up, prepping it, and the first cook will be ?????? STL Ribs that will have Huskees Rib Rub, Ribs are being frozen and will be put on the unit frozen and I will cover all that I am doing.

Mark I did get an additional 400 lb of pellets. I got the Maple, Hickory, Cherry, Apple Blend. I didn't know if I was going to like the Oak/Hickory blend so I will wait a bit until I have a chance to use these and see what I like. and yes the shipping was free.
