Long version,
For the last 5 years I've been using a decent homebuilt offset stickburner I got off craigslist for $40. The performance is OK, limited by the guy running it, not the equipment. (Hey that's why I'm here!)
My problem is as my kids get busier I wind up using the thing maybe 3-4 times a year. I just don't have many days where I can spend 12 hours tending it.
So I've been looking for a pellet smoker so I could actually use it more often. Most of the time I'm cooking for probably 10-15 people. However, a couple times a year I have some big events where it would be awesome if I could feed 50.
That's why the Camp Chef smokepro xxl caught my eye.
Does anyone have any experience with this model? More Generally is there anything inherently better or worse than the more normal (horizontal cylinder) pellet grills?
Is there usually a big temp difference top to bottom? I thought I read somewhere (I thought it was here, but I can't find it) about heat/smoke shadow effect where if you have 4 briskets stacked vertically the top one doesn't get much heat or smoke. Is that the case?
