Anyone added gas to a pellet smoker?

I love the way steaks come off my GMG after I added an old heavy iron grill on top of the original. I hate that it takes so much fuel to bring it up to 500 degrees and I am wondering about adding a gas burner along one side or the flue end. Has anyone tried such?

Why not use your indoor oven to heat the griddle then pop it into the GMG?

I can't imagine having a burner inside the smoker would work well while it is also burning pellets...

I don't have a griddle just a heavy cast grate from an old gaser.

Camp Chef Woodwind has a gas burner attached to the side.

Could also get a portable induction burner to have next to your GMG to complete your sear on cast iron.

I personally think it's a great idea if anyone ever can figure it out. The reverse was pretty popular with products like the smoke daddy that infuse wood smoke flavor to a high temp gas cook. The problem with adding gas for quick heat to a pellet burner is that 1. the pellets usually die out on low smoke with the lid open too long and 2. the burn pot/smoke production is controlled by the temp, which is usually at grate level so the propane heat would mess up the computer feed/fan rate
