    Glove recommendations

Any recommendations for gloves to handle heat yet flexible enough to keep them on for removing and cleaning grates?

    Here's what I have been using: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Oklahoma-Jo...ove/1001459626

But really, you could use any knit cotton gloves with disposable nitrile gloves over them. I shredded two pork butts yesterday that would have been way too hot to handle with bare hands and could barely even tell they were warm.

The nitrile over cotton approach works well for a lot of things. For higher heat I use these:
G & F Products 8119-13Inch Cooking Gloves FDA Food Safe No BPA Insulated Waterproof, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0842VMMQ3..._w5uoFbKJKDB98.

I also use welding gloves for hot coals and very hot metal.

Every griller should have a pair of welding gloves.

I give a second on these gloves. They are the same ones I use for all hot food handling, and they work really well. If I need to mess with the fire itself I use Heat Guardian gloves.

The nitrile over cotton works well, especially for things like pulling pork because they retain a fair bit of dexterity, but if I’m looking at serious heat, I put these on...

They’re also longer, so I can just reach in and remove a brisket or turkey or whatever and not worry about lighting up my forearms.

I have these as well...but while they can take the heat...they can’t be used in a wet environment.

This is what I use also. Works great for things that involve working over a hot fire: moving food, picking up grates, stirring coals, etc. For work with handling hot food, I use cut resistant gloves with a nitrile glove over those. Can't work a long time with the hot food, but gives some protection and dexterity.

Nitrile over cotton for food handling, just nitrile for cleaning grills and smokers. For really hot jobs like moving hot grates or messing with foiled hot food or a hot chimney starter I’ve had great success with the Pit Barrel Cooker gloves.

These are my favorites. I can pick up hot coals with no issues.

Yes, I love the length of them, as I reach into the smoker frequently, and this saves my forearms from burns multiple times. So handy.

I have a pair of Pitmaker gloves that I use for almost everything. They're great for handling food, and can be used to move hot cooking grates. I wouldn't use them for super-hot things like hot coals, although the AR review says they can work for that at least for a while. But they're the best all-around gloves I've had. They're water-proof, so you don't have to worry about them losing their insulating ability when they get wet. I'll probably get another pair when I wear these out. I'm thinking of getting some welding gloves for the really hot tasks.

The synthetic Pitmaker High Heat Meat Handling Gloves come in one large size and are said to be safe to 450 degrees F. While intended for handling food, we have also seen them used to move charcoal and burning logs (briefly). The cotton lining on these gloves feels very comfortable and they are slip resistant.
