My brother-in-law used to sleep in his deer stand regularly during the morning hunt. Eventually he just gave up and only went out for the afternoon hunt. I don't think the deer were in any danger, though. He went to deer camp more for the companionship (enhanced by plenty of ethanol) and the escape from home than love of venison.

I hope fish camp was enjoyable. Looks like I need to check back in the morning.

CaptainMike It might differ by area or era, but around here if there is no report of someone still inside, there is no going in. Just use the hose to blow the windows out, and keep pumping until it starts to run out the basement windows. At least that's what my firefighting buddies tell me. For myself, fire inside, mean I'll be outside.

CaptainMike Yeah, that’s all good and everything, but for sheer bravery in the face of danger, I have a story too. One time I put out a grease fire in an old gas grill, all by myself. There was 6†to 8†flames for a good foot or so. I closed the lid and turned off the gas, all without benefit of a fire suit or oxygen tanks.Last edited by Panhead John; June 20, 2021, 07:47 AM.

I used to love rolling up on these. Yes, the loss and destruction really does suck and it was always the big letdown once the fire was out, but man oh man this is bread and butter for a fireman. Kick that front door in and advance your line upstairs while fighting fire through the smoke and heat, yee haw!!!! Nothing like facing your own mortality to make you feel wonderfully alive! Plus, chicks dig firefighters.
