Smoker Mod (My First Welding Project)

I finished both rack supports for my removable double rack modification for my COS. My welds are sub par, some badly so, but my number of passably acceptable welds is increasing over time. I did burn thorough the upright square tubing twice, but nothing critical so I just left the holes. On the whole, In pretty pleased with it. I needed to get materials for the did racks - 3/4" angle iron and expanded metal. Maybe this weekend. I have wanted to put in a second rack of some kind practically since the day I bought the smoker, but didn't know how to accomplish it. Now I have.

If you can't break it by pulling and or pushing on it I call that a good weld.

That was basically my thought. It's also why I didn't bother trying to fix the burn through holes. They won't affect the performance of the parts.

Thin wall tube can be a psin in the begining but that's how we all learn. You'll be a pro in no time. I see lots of new projects in your future.

So I got the next step of my smoker mod done. I finally got the main food grate welded up. I still need to grind down the seams and weld a small piece of angle on the front as a handle, but it's usable, finally.

Weld Metal Porosity is just collection holes for a more intense seasoning result.

Not quite doubled I'm afraid. The top shelf is only about two-thirds the depth of the bottom. but I've been wanting a second shelf practically since the day I bought the smoker. Now I finally have it.

The Good-One Is A Superb Grill And A Superb Smoker All In One

                      the good one grill
The Good-One Open Range is dramatically different from a traditional offset smoker. By placing the heat source behind and under the smokebox instead of off to the side, Open Range produces even temperature from left to right, something almost impossible to achieve with a standard barrel shaped offset.
