    Do New Charcoal Griil need to be 'Conditions"?

    Hi Everybody,
    Just joined the list.
    I have ordered a Weber 22 inch grill that, hopefully, will be delivered tomorrow. It has an SnS add-on. Do new charcoal grills need to be 'conditioned', before use? And if so, how?
    Thanks for your wisdom.

    It wouldn't hurt to throw half a chimney of lit coals in the kettle with the SnS and grate. Just to burn off any residual oil from manufacturing. Welcome to the Pit!


      Yup just burn off the residual machine oil and you're good to go. Enjoy the new grill!


        Welcome to the pit! Yes, I would fill your SnS with hot coals and a few wood chunks. Let it burn with the lid on and dampers wide open until the coals are gone. At least for a few hours or so. I also put some cheap meat on the grill that I throw away later. That should get rid of the new metal residue and burn off any smells.

                  If you are thinking about adding a gasket to the lid for a tighter seal I’d do that before any charcoal burning goes on in the Weber though.


                    Huntington Beach welcomes you and that fine cooking machine you have coming.

                    What they 👆👆👆 all said. Cheap chicken legs work too with less grease but the bacon smells soooo much better.
