    Hello From NE PA

Hello from Northeast PA. I have been infatuated with BBQ since I was a child. My grandmother was from Greenville NC. I only went there once when I was a toddler so my infatuation was developed by the stories I was told about my Uncle Rays ribs and pork shoulder. I do not have what I would consider good BBQ available around me so i dot know what is good or not! I am a self-proclaimed foodie who devoured Meatheads book during an illness which ironically enough compromised my ability to eat. As I healed and started consuming solid food again it was summer time so it was grilling time. That summer, 2016, my wife won a beautiful Weber Kettle which I bought a SnS for and started elevating my results as I practiced based on Meathead’s book and advice I received from rummaging through the endless threads found on this site. My COS quickly became second fiddle to the Webber with the SnS. I judge what is good only from the reviews I get from my guests. I think I have a pretty good taste for BBQ now as well, although as I said earlier, I don’t have anything competition level or professional near me to compare with. I have done numerous pork shoulders and ribs which are in my opinion getting better with each cook. I have also tackled one brisket. Not having a Franklins within 4 hours drive, I don’t have anything to gauge its success by but it tasted good as I followed some of Franklin’s advice, some of Meathead’s, and lots from the various posts here. This year I upgraded to a YS 640 and a FireBoard which has added a huge amount of consistency to my cooking. My original dream rig was a Lang but I don’t think I would be make it through a night of fire tending and be very friendly the next day! In any case, hello, and thanks for providing so much valuable information. This site is my go to for everything grilling, I have improved my BBQ’ing 10 fold from being a member. This site, Meathead’s book and BBQ in general, created a strong desire inside me to get past my medical issues and eat solid food again. I can’t tell you all how much it means to me. Jeff

          Welcome!

Four hour’s drive is a pretty big radius. It will get you to Chubby’s in Emmitsburg, MD.

Ha! Ha! Chubby's is 8 miles from my house. For some reseason I've only been there once years ago when my kids went to school in Emittsburg. Sounds like you've been there Mosca. I don't remember if it was good or not. What did you think?

I know the owner, Tom, so I might be biased. The ribs and pork are excellent, the sides, especially the beans and collard greens, are outstanding. The gooey butter cake is worth saving room for.

If you go, tell him Mosca from Roadfood sent you. It probably won’t get you anything, but connections can be valuable.
