First of all,welcome, from Baltimore!! Glad to see fellow Marylanders her in the Pit. I have no experience with ceramic kamados, but I do have a steel kamado cooker. I think chicken will work really well on a Kamado Joe. I agree with LA Pork Butt about your first cook. Boston Butt is very forgiving. Be sure to post pictures!

My first burn (not cook) I plan on following CeramicChef 's Taming the Savage Kamado thread. Going from a standard grill set up, I imagine there will be a learning curve too keeping temperatures correct. Not sure what I'll cook at the end of that. I would do steaks, but the wife won't eat them anything but well done.
