Hello all! I always wanted a smoker but was always tainted by the experience growing up with my dads old bass pro shop/cabellas bullet smoker that didn't perform and just ended up taking place in the garage. I finally bit the bullet last year and bought a Weber Smokey Mountain 18.5 last summer. I've thoroughly enjoyed cooking on it for the past year and this spring finally "stepped up" to brisket. This website has been key for me - so I have made the investment and joined the club to support the site that really helped point me in the right direction in many ways. The WSM now has been upgraded with the Cajun Bandit kit!
Welcome to The Pit, we are happy to have you here! Your on the right track with that WSM! They are nice rigs! Especially when you add the Bandit kit. I have a friend that did the same, and he is very happy with it.

Welcome to the Pit! My old bullet smoker worked find with the exception of having to add coals at the 8 hour mark which meant getting up at 4am on a overnight cook to serve at noon. Now, with my Big Green Egg I can cook without adding charcoal. You should find some good tips here for your WSM and hopefully you won't need to add charcoal for long cooks.

Howdy from Kansas Territory, Welcome to th' Pit!

Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
