I've been grilling for many years, but mostly burgers and steaks, and mostly on a gas grill. I first encountered Meathead's reverse sear method for grilling steaks two years ago and it was life-changing. I've done just a little bit of smoking - with chips and a cast iron box on the gas grill. Good results, but just dabbling.
I've recently begun to explore what charcoal could offer, and plan to buy my first charcoal grill this year. I'm really looking forward to doing pork bbq slow and low... I'm currently reading through Meathead's book, learning and planning for my entrance into charcoal cooking. Later this summer I plan to buy a Weber charcoal grill, probably the 26" kettle, and all the accoutrements that go along with it that I'll need. In the meantime, I'm just cranking out burgers, dogs, and steaks on a run-down gas grill that's been around for a long time.
A little about me is that I enjoy being outside most of the time (hunting/fishing/cutting firewood/gardening/playing baseball with my son/grilling/etc). I read a lot of books, of all types, including books about food and cooking occasionally. Though I don't get to often, I really enjoy cooking, whether on the grill or in the kitchen.
I'm excited to join this community of outdoor cooks. From the comments I've read so far, this seems like a genuinely good group of people to talk to, and a great resource to learn from. Looking forward to getting to know you folks. My name's Jeremy.
