Welcome P61 from NW Arkansas. I do some culinary workshops and have used stones and now I use either the 1/4 inch baking steel or the 1/2 inch steel griddle. In the oven, I put the steel on the top rack and preheat it under the broiler. Then cook pizza in about 6 minutes on the steel and under the broiler. The metal transfer heat faster than stone.
