    New Here

Hello and new to this site. Looking forward to lots of new info. I just received my Weber 22" Smoker. It's all assembled except for one last item. There's a hole about the size of a quarter in the center section and, I do have a rubber thingie that looks like it might go in there. Try as I will, I cannot make it fit that space. Any thoughts? Also, I will say that I have been at this for some years and still feel like a novice. This is my first charcoal smoker, and I'm looking forward to it.

Welcome to The Pit GrillBill ! Great to have you here with us. Congrats on the new smoker. I assume it's the Smokey Mountain? I can't help much with the plug, I assume you're on the right track....shame it won't fit.

Since this is your first post, please check out our homework assignment post for new members, it contains a few how-tos and please-dos. This will help you learn your way around so you can get the best experience from our forum.

I finally got it inserted in the hole in the side of the WSM. It is made for the temp probe. Thanks for the thought. I appreciate it.

Hi GrillBill and welcome to the pit.

I've got a 14.5" WSM and the silicone plug was not easy to work into the hole on mine either. Hold it in front of the hole in the WSM body. It should look just slightly larger than the hole. If it looks that way, start working one edge in and over the steel edge and work your way around the hole until it is seated. (It's to put probes into the WSM. There's a slit for wires, and a small hole that you can shove a Thermapen, Thermopop, etc. through to take a reading). If you are in cold temperatures, get the silicone disk warmed up to increase its flexibility.

          Best regards,
          Jim

Thanks Jim....I did make it work. Now I need something to put in it. Not so sure about accuracy of temp gauge from factory. Is there a favorite temp item that everyone seems to agree on?
