    Newbie Here!

Hey guys! My name is Anthony and I am new to the site and new to smoking. I am a hunter and just got a bunch of jerky stuff to start making my own jerky and sticks. Instead of using my dehydrator, I decided to buy a smoker, this way I can make some incredible meats for the summer! I have narrowed it down to the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker. I am going to get the 18.5" as it seems to be the best overall value. I just joined this site and so happy with the loads of info on here! I just wanted to introduce myself and apologize in advance for all the questions I am going to ask in the future! One question for now is, is there a difference between using charcoal or the wood briquettes?

Tony7781, Welcome to The Pit! Tony, I think you would want to start with Charcoal and Wood Chunks for Flavor? That's what I do in my 22.5" Weber Performers! You might want to check the Recipe Sections on the AR Site!

Welcome, Anthony. I've had both the 18.5 and 22.5 WSMs for years. Keep this in mind, though, when you go to make that purchase...you can always cook smaller amounts on a bigger cooker, but it's difficult to cook bigger amounts on a smaller cooker. A year from now after reading all of the great info out here on AR, will you be kicking yourself for not getting the 22.5?
