    Hello all! With the help of this site I got started in smoking meats earlier this year. So far I've been using an 18.5" Weber kettle, but I just purchased a Brinkmann Vertical Trailmaster. I bought a mod kit from BBQSmoker mods, and I'm just about ready to put it together and do the maiden cook. If anyone has any tips for making the Trailmaster a better smoker, please let me know.

        Welcome aboard! I am a Big Green Egg guy. I not sure I know your smoker, but if it like the tube water smoker I used for years here is what I suggest. Fill the base with a chimney of charcoal, bury 3-4 chunks of hickory, then spread a chimney of lit charcoal over the unlit.
        Fill your water pan and put on a Boston Butt. You might have to add charcoal after 8-10 hours.
