If Being a BBQ Hedonist is Wrong I Don't Want to be Right!

    Hello Amazing Ribs!,

My name is Dan and I am a BBQ hedonist. I live in Colorado and always have. I am originally from Fort Collins, although my current address is Brighton, which is just north of Denver. I have a lovely and wonderful wife of 14 years, Becki, who fully supports my pursuit of BBQ bliss. We have a son Brady who is 4 and is slowly learning the finer things in life such as Pulled Pork sandwiches and slow smoked ribs! I also have a trusty grillin' partner Dandy who is a Boxer/Lab mix. He never strays far from the hand that feeds and may or may not get more BBQ than any dog deserves! I found this site around six months ago and have read through a few of the techniques here and the folks here are always right on the money! I have never tried something suggested here and been disappointed. I also love that it is all backed by research as well as experience rather than the "My buddy's, cousin's, uncle Joe twice removed suggests..." approach. ~ Not that Joe can't cook, just sayin!

My current tools of choice are a Louisiana Country Smoker 680 pellet smoker and a Char-grill infrared gas grill (which is basically just for searing these days, doesn't see much action). I chose the Louisiana because it dies have a sear grate on it which I have found to be great for finishing off a steak or crisping up some smoked chicken.

I cook everything outside, year round and have for years, even when its 2 degrees outside I am firing up the grill for dinner. I also don't really have a specialty or preference at this point as long as it turns out tasty I am in!! I like to switch it up regularly, whatever fits my carnivorous desire that day gets thrown on the BBQ.

I work as a Business Intelligence Consultant so I get to work a lot from home which is very conducive to BBQ. I can put some ribs on (as I currently have going) and I am always close. I just take my laptop outside and savor the sweet smoky aromas of the smoker making magic!

Anyways, I am happy to be here and hope to continue to learn from my fellow hedonistic BBQ fiends!!

Great post Dan! I too am a fellow 'no such thing as too cold to smoke' enthusiast. I've done some reverse seared steaks when it was either 5 degrees or -5 degrees, I can't remember. There's little difference at that point anyway!
I too appreciate the research and logic behind the tips and recipes here.

Look forward to more posts from you!

Welcome to The Pit Dan! I think you'll fit in well here with your hedonistic ways. Heck, I have a poker party at my house regularly just so I have an excuse to BBQ a lot of food. I don't care about winnin! When you have a moment, check out my Welcome letter and tips topics, which will help you complete your signature (Tip#1). They're here and here.
