Mrs. CN and I went to Wenatchee, WA last week to see the urologist for a follow up on the kidney nodule. Before heading home I took her to Leavenworth, WA to play tourist and visit a shop that sells flavoured oils and balsamic vinegars so she could stock up. Leavenworth is a small town at the base of the Cascades that prides itself on a Bavarian theme, even the grocery stores and filling stations are required to have a Bavarian appearance.

Just down the road from Leavenworth is Peshastin, WA, a very small town on Highway 2. Mrs. CN wanted to get some peaches, so we stopped in at a farm stand that is quite the attraction with old trucks, a play area for the kiddies, and just about everything under the sun in the store, including a giant chicken.

Drove Mrs. CN back to Stevens County on Saturday. Got this pic at her favourite pit stop in Republic, WA
When we came over last Wednesday there wasn't any snow where the coffee mug was. In case anyone heard a collective sigh of relief, it was the town of Republic, where the third Saturday of every January is their 'Winterfest'. Last year the snow was sparse. They picked this up on Friday, and got another five inches today. More forecast for the end of the week. Elton's BBQ just in case you forgot, this is what snow looks like! ;-)

Thanks for posting, sometimes I feel like the Maytag repairman on this thread! Beautiful sunset, check out the 'Today's sunset/sunrise' thread in Off Topic Discussions. Were you gone the whole week? I'll bet Olive was happy to see you!
-
No I was home every night but 3 days left before 5:00am didn't get home till after 9:00 pm. Just happy to have this one behind me.
But yes unlike my wife Olive is always happy to see me .
Just like the old story goes lock them both in the trunk for a 1/2 hour and you know only one will be happy to see you when you let them out. Haha.

I've got too much! And next week I'm driving back from Texas with a 1/2 cord of MESQUITE and some POST OAK. Can't wait to try some 'authentic' Texas flavors on the KBQ!!!

pitchfork_man Interested in apple?
-
Comfortably numb, yes I am interested in apple wood… it is excellent for poultry! It coals up much better than Cherrywood. Can’t find any locally, have to order it from Fruita wood. Expensive! I would definitely be willing to trade boxes. Where are you located?
-
pitchfork_man I'm located in top apple growing region of the country, Washington state. I have a nine acre orchard.

I did that so many times that I put my coffee mug in one (I ordered extras) so now it is rare that I don't have one with me.
We're still deciding, but we're leaning towards a Saturday night on Facebook for you as punishment! ;-)

Nah, I was diving/hiking/camping and hanging out with my brothers family. There were down there for a while. There is great fishing right were I was but, I asked around and it sounded slow. The diving was great though. I thought about bringing my 10 Wt and trying to grab a rooster fish, but I decided to leave the rod at home. One of our dive master said they had seen them while spear fishing, wish I woulda brought the rod. hogdog6

Monday I had to go to Spokane for another periodontist appointment, I don't want to talk about that, and you don't want to hear it! Anyway, on my way back to Okanogan I pass through Grand Coulee. Climbing the hill going out of town, I looked and saw this:
That is the Columbia River backed up by the dam. Seen it scores of times, but something was different, so I turned around, went through town and to the dam.
The water is cascading over the spillway. Normally all you see a huge concrete wall. Here's another view, with the information placard in the foreground.
Well the show wasn't over, when I get to Bridgeport there is the Chief Joseph Dam. I couldn't stop on the bridge to take a picture, so I turned off and went down the road to find a spot for a shot. The sign that read 'Lower Reservoir Recreation Area' seemed like it might, so I turned off and went down. Well to say it was a good spot to take a picture is an understatement!
That's where I parked. So I walked down the path to get a little closer.
The sound was deafening. So I figured, why not go to that railing?
That's it folks, any closer and I'll be on my way to Portland, OR! One last look down the line.

Craigar It was, pictures don't really do it justice. And even though the CJD is nowhere near the size of the GCD, just being able to stand literally next to the spillway made it more impressive.
-
Wow! Awesome photos. You expect that with the spring snow runoff, not now. (BTW, sad irony, is the dam named for Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce tribe was built with no fish ladder.)

Well it's been quite some time since a post, and we have several new KBQ (and thus coozie) owners out there. Don't be shy, let's see your coozies with some of your local scenery.
I had to go to Colville on Friday for a dentist visit. Then went to the old farm for the night and pick up some things. Came back today. Here are some views from the trip:
Driving east on Highway 20 just west of Republic, WA
Coming down the backside of Sherman Pass near Kettle Falls, WA. You get a peak of the Columbia River through the trees.
On my way from Colville to the old farm. Pulled off and took a side road down to the river. Although I've passed by hundreds of times, this was the first time pulling off to get a picture of the Columbia. Looking north.
And looking back south. I had just crossed over the bridge from Stevens County to Ferry County. The steam you see is from an Avista Utilities cogeneration plant that burns wood chips from the lumber mills to produce electricity.
Heading back to Okanogan, this was taken along Boulder Pass Road on the way to Curlew, WA.
I had just cleared the summit and was on the downhill side for this shot. I was in the middle of the burn scar from the 2015 Stickpin Fire, which burned eight miles wide from Malo, WA to Grand Forks, BC for a total of 54,000 acres.
Driving on the Kettle River Road just west of Curlew, WA and approaching the Toroda Valley.
Now bust out those coozies and show us what you have!

Here are a few recent ones
Didn't have my mug with me the day I took this one. This is Highway 20 coming down the westside of Loup Loup Pass into the Methow Valley. In the distance are the North Cascades. BTW, if you ever visit this neck of the woods, the drive from here to the other side of the mountains is the most beautiful in all the state. And when you get there, you'll be at Red Man 's house.
The Methow River at a point between Twisp and Winthrop.
Coming into Winthrop from the east.
Completely switching gears, now heading down Highway 97 to Wenatchee alongside the mighty Columbia River.

Sid P Not really. I live in the North Central Washington, which is sparsely populated, it's 100 miles to get to major shopping or medical specialists. I have a job that involves driving, all the pics in this post are literally from my office window. I see you and Dr. Pepper in the list on the KBQ roll call, how about some company here?

ComfortablyNumb reminded me about this tradition a few days ago, and today my best friend told me about a new barbecue place half an hour away, so my KBQ coozie went on it’s
first road trip.
It has a hard rock theme with RUSH and Judas Priest on the wall, and Black Sabbath, Van Halen, ZZ Top, and Metallica playing in the short time I was there. Definitely my kind of place.
The food was great, and I’ll be back very soon

Keep them coming and it doesn't have to be a road trip or anything special. I actually have five coozies, I keep my coffee cup in one, so it is usually with me. And all my posts are local to me and in the course of the day. Of course if I did something special and exciting, like go scuba diving in the Caribbean or fishing in Alaska, I'd take it with me and have lots of pictures to share. ;-)

From Tuesday. A shot very similar to the one in post 73 from along Highway 20 coming down from Loup Loup to the Methow, but this time I had my coozie.
Taken later along Highway 97. Coozie didn't work with the framing of the picture, so I left it out. But I had it with me!
The Columbia and the Cascades.
