Does anybody use a form of rocketstove? Normally I will use a propane burner but I am tired of dragging a propane jug around to different place for frying fish or a crab boil or whatever. Think it would be kinda cool to make one of these either out of square tubing or cinder block even. From I have seen they look like they work pretty good but I am just wondering if anyone has experience. Seems like they would work well when frying or boiling in cast iron compared to using briquettes.
Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
I use what I call the camping microwave. It's just a chimney starter filled with charcoal. Once the charcoal is fully lit it only takes a few minutes to get water hot enough to make coffee. I also use it to quickly warm up leftovers. Use it to make anything you want done fast just like a microwave. The only difference is you can only use metal, no paper or plastic. You can cook anything over it in a pan or on a grate.
The metal gravity feed models look interesting since they require no special fuel and would probably work really well with CI cookware. More of a survivalist/prepper SHTF thing I suppose. I want one.
