Lava lok gasket sealed my kettle πŸ˜†

No more binder clips for the Leakey kettle, cleaned up the lid and stuck the lava lok gasket on there...teat run including chops looking good πŸ‘

Glad you found a solution! My 22" works well for me with 4 binder clips and my 26" lid is very tight. Feel free to post photos of your test run chops.

Mine works well without a gasket or binder clips, at least I think it does. What am I missing?

If you can control temps, then you're good! My 22" leaks so much without the clips that temp control is tough to impossible.

My experience is that kettle leakage varies considerably from one kettle to another. Very minor variations in the manufacturing process can make a big difference.

fuzzydaddy What do binder clips look like with regards to the Weber kettle? I've seen my kettle put out smoke around the edges of the lid rather than out the upper air vent. I'm guessing this means my kettle leaks, too? Where do I find these binder clips?

TheGrizMan I used this binder clip size since I already had them and they worked. If I were buying more I'd look at a larger size. I get them from an office supply store.

Huh, go figure. When you said binder clips you really meant binder clips... I thought it was a code word for something specific to the weber kettle.

I think older rigs tend to leak a bit more. I've had my WSM for about 6 years and just put gaskets and a cajun bandit door on it. Nothing seems to age well, me, least of all :-)

My 22" is about 15 years old and leaks after a storm knocked it over a couple of years ago. I use binder clips and they work well. The only drawback for me is taking them off (remember, they get hot!) and putting them back on can be tedious in the middle of a cook. Buying a new kettle for next year. Thinking I will buy a gasket if the new one leaks.

Hell yeah. I just put some new Lava lock on my Keg. Works like a charm. I love that stuff. It really makes a difference.

What kind of Lava Lock do you need for a Weber 22" kettle? They have all kinds of sizes on their site. 1/2" x 1/8", 1" x 1/4", and many others.

Go to their site, and the top-left tab, "Kits by Brand" and scroll down to Weber at the bottom. There you can select the kettle and it has the kit you'll need.
