How many wing pieces on 18" w/ Vortex?

Hello friends,

How many wing pieces (i.e.not whole wings) can I comfortably fit on an 18" Weber w/ a vortex? I want to get as many as I can without overcrowding. I'd like room to flip and adjust.

I've never done more than 12 - 15 at one time, but I'd say there is room for at least double that... maybe more

There may be some geometry in this...... I know on my 22" Weber grate, I do 22 wings for a vortex setup. I wonder if 18 is the magic number for an 18" grate?

jjdbike This is what I said in your other post. If the wings are large, the number might be reduced.

When you have a chance, lay down some foil on the cooking grate. [to keep the wings clean] Sometime well before your cook, insert the vortex FIRST, then lay down the wing pieces, around the opening of the vortex, on the foil to see what you think. I’d allow at least 1” between pieces for a good air flow. Or you can foil half the grate for less work, then double the number of pieces to see how many will fit.
