ID:	690622 I’m looking at purchasing this second hand custom made smoker for $1200. It was made by JC Fabrication in Odessa TX. I found it interesting that the fire box grate is on wheels so you can slide it back and forth between the cooking chamber and the fire box. What do y’all think? Pass or buy? Thanks!

I have no idea if it's a good deal or not, but it looks to be in good condition.

Probably smarter than paying full price.

Do you get to talk to someone who has cooked on it?

The seller has had it for one year. I’m going to talk to him. He said in a message that it was efficient and held temperature well.

Do a burn in it to see how easy it is to maintain temps.

My thoughts too. Nicely built rig. No way you can get an insulated one built for that price.

The sellers online post says that the door is insulated 1 inch and the walls are 1.5 inch on the cooking chamber.

It looks like a knockoff Lone Star Grills vertical smoker. A LSG like that is about 2500. I would suggest you look at the specs on a comparable size LSG. Then compare the two, and go from there.

Having an LSG myself I would have to see it in person to see if it’s a good quality rIg.
I’d be skeptical about the 1 inch thick door and one and a half inch thick firebox. That’s really really thick. Haven’t seen that before.
But the pics look pretty good.
Might very well be a great deal.
As NapMaster said compare it with the LSG and ask the guy more questions about the smoker.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
