Cleaning grease and dust off the outside of a gas grill

I've acquired a gas grill. The inside is relatively clean. The outside has a lot of grease and dust accumulation. It laughs at hot water and dish soap. Any ideas, including oven cleaner?

I use a citrus based cleaner with balled up aluminum foil.

I use a product called Greased Lightning. Works well. Got it at Home Depot.

I have to agree on dawn. It is hard to beat good soap and water.

We've used this when our Men's Group at Church does Steak Fries or at home I've used Simple Green.

Agree with Simple Green. Light layer, soak a rag in rubbing alcohol.

I get pretty good results with 409, but agree that Dawn dish liquid and hot water may be the best option.

I have used Dawn for many years. Haven't found any thing better, just more expensive.

I'm guessing its pretty thick from the way you described it, so I'd start with a plastic scraper to get the thick build-up off. Then Dawn and hot water. If the grill is stainless steel, then finish with a SS polish.

Warm it up before you clean it.

This stuff works great. Available at Lowe's Home Improvement. I always have some on hand. I use the BBQ grill cleaner, not the exterior cleaner. The BBQ grill cleaner works on the entire grill, inside and out.

I just cleaned 5 years of crud off of mine with Barkeeper’s Friend and it shines like new now

                            That didn't scratch the enamel?

Agree with Dawn. They now have a Dawn spray. I use it for grates, sheet pans, anything that needs to soak or sit for a bit.
