Davek8282 Thank you for the info. Nice to know the BK folk had you covered. This model for me is SS firebox. So what did you buy? Thanks again.

HouseHomey if you haven't purchased yet Decades ago I had a Broil King with the aluminium firebox. After about 10 years the aluminium fatigued and the grates would no longer sit in place as the box had spread. At the time Broil King would have replaced free of charge, but 10 years I thought I had my money's worth and moved on.

Thank you for this. Love info line this.
BFlynn I’m sniper like patient with this kinda stuff. I’m locked in now just looking for other rigs to change my mind. So far none has. No deep dives on others yet.

BFlynn If you are on the Grillgrate mailing list, from having bought something from them, you will get an email from them about twice a year, for a factory seconds sale. It is usually just a number of different size panels that have cosmetic blemishes that don't matter once you've cooked on them and dirtied them up anyway. They are usually about 1/3 the cost of the regular sets.

BFlynn his issue was that when using a gas grill for a direct heat cook, as most folks do, for burgers or what not, he could not get the grill less than blazing hot, which led to a tendency to burn the burgers or have a big grease fire. This was not the 590 model, but the same 3 burner model that AR has a review on and recommends as a searing machine.

Interesting
I can get mine to run 220-230 with 2 burners near low and the other 3 burners off.
Mine came with stainless grates. Still replaced 2 of them with grillgrates. But can't speak to the cast iron.
I may fire it up tomorrow with all 5 on low and see what it does. It'll probably be hot. I mean, it was 110 outside. Won't take much to get above 250 inside....
How does one buy the grillgrate factory seconds? I bought the regular ones at full price like a sucker

I’ve personally looked at the Broil King 590 at Lowe’s and it was impressive in my opinion. That said, I only know one person personally with a Broil King, and his complaints were this:
1. It runs hot, and it is hard to get the temp low with all burners on low. This plays into why Max Good said it’s a searing machine - it gets HOT.
2. All of his grates were non-coated cast iron and rusted up pretty bad. He thought they were coated and didn’t season them, as he had used Weber gassers before that. His solution was to buy GrillGrate factory seconds panels on sale.
I think he does most of his cooking on a Performer Deluxe he picked up for free from someone. Yeah - he is always lucky like that.
