    How much wood to get

So far I’ve only used wood chunks and charcoal with my smokers before. But I want to use my smoker as a stick burner at some point. I see a few places nearby selling oak and/or pecan firewood. I don’t really have storage for a full cord. I could maybe fit 1/2 cord, definitely 1/4 in an area behind my shed. For someone who smokes 1 or 2 times per month, how much should I get? I live in a wet/humid climate, so I think long-term storage of firewood is out.

I ordered 1 face cord (roughly a full sized pickup truck box full) which equates to a 4'x8' stack x ~16"-20" length pieces of oak. That plus about half as much ash lasted me ~2 years. I cook on average 1-2x month on my stickburner too. Sometimes twice a week, sometimes take a month off when reviewing other cookers. I would suspect 1/2 face cord would probably do you well for a good while (year?) if that's all you can store. You might find cutting the 'bonfire' sized pieces that most firewood comes in down to about 8-10" (roughly half in other words) and splitting them down quarter- or eighth-split to be helpful. I don't have roof storage- mine's out in the elements. I bought a firewood tarp off Amazon and it does a great job. I stack my good firewood on a base layer of pine so the good wood doesn't get ruined being in the dirt. A Kindling Kracker XL and a 4lb sledge hammer will be 2 tools I'd highly recommend as well!
