    Crepe Myrtle?

I cut up a crepe myrtle that was blown over in a storm. Some pieces are 4" in diameter and it got me to thinking: can you smoke with crepe myrtle? A quick google search shows this question being asked a lot with no definitive answer. One post on another forum stated that the California Poison Control Center says it is non-toxic but I didn't go to their site myself. I also found this link which suggests crepe myrtle be used for pork and quail: http://www.fooduniversity.com/foodu/...Selection.html

This site lists it as a potential BBQ wood too, scroll down for some numbered pointers, the first four list wood that is good to burn and to BBQ with: https://arborwizard.com/burn-this-no...ree-specialist

Another link from another BBQ sight listed it is good for oily fish such as mullet but when I clicked the link I got a malware warning so I didn't proceed.

Any thoughts? I'm curious but not married to the idea of smoking with it, I can burn it in the fire pit instead. I have a whole fence row of 20' crepe myrtles that I am going to cut down so I'll have lots to burn (or smoke with if it is ok).

Hmm, I have about 10 in my front yard...but then again, there is an orchard and the farm wit various fruit trees, pecans, and I have a barn full of red oak. I'm good, wood wise. Interesting thought though.

Learn all about wood smoke and how it adds flavor to BBQ. Find out whether you should be using wood chunks, chips, pellets, logs, or sawdust in your cooker. Discover the truth behind the claim that different woods have different flavors.

Thanks. Read the article before but re-read it today, great info.

I have two "Crappy" Myrtles in my yard in central Florida. I think that tells you whether or not I would use them for cooking.
