    Ole Hickory Squogs

I was just over at Oak Ridge BBQ's website as I am needing to replenish the rub supply when I noticed they added wood to their product list. So I click on it and it takes me to their Squogs. Chunks of hickory that measure 3.5"X3.5"X12" that's a pretty decent hunk of wood. Claims it will burn up to 8 hours but not in my stick burner it won't. I'm guessing that would last at the most 2 hours with some other wood burning with it.

Seeing as how I'll never see any hickory wood around here no matter how long I live I'm tempted to buy some as I always wanted to try some out. I figure one or two of these logs put on at the right time during a cook might be enough to give me some flavor. I'm thinking put a squog on a nice bed of oak coals let it get started and then start to close the vents down until I slow things enough to get a thicker blue than normal.

Here's a link to the Squogs! Love that word, Squog! Hand me a squog would ya!

I love it. I am with you, I feel like the KBQ would burn those up pretty darn quick, but I would love to try these too. I wish we had some hickory in Minnesota. I bet you would get some flavor by doing the method you mentioned above. I find hickory to be pretty similar to oak, so the oak bed would be a good idea.

I love Oak Ridge's website! And I also love that word!!!! SQUOGS!!!LOL Hope you having a great Saturday!

I'm pretty sure those burn times are for the Ole' Hickory line of gas smokers, the bestest smokers in the world.
