Never heard of silver oak. Maybe you mean silver maple in which case yes but I would say it's not preferable. Maples produce way too much ash for my liking. Oak is my go to wood. Burns hot and long and not much ash and a good mild smoke.

It's been wet for sure Spinaker been cooking for grad parties every weekend this month. Haven't even had the chance to get in on the walleye bite at LOTW.

It's native to Australia, but is not a true oak - it's in a different family. I didn't see any references to it's safety as a smoking wood.

Unless you are from Australia or New Zealand (are you?) you probably don’t have Silver Oak. It’s not a member of the Quercus family of true oaks. I really can’t find any reference to it’s suitability as a bbq wood. Dry some out and give it a try.
