    Close call? Flammables in mailbox

Some of my regular guests enjoy cigars and pipes - not a big thing for me but I join them sometimes. So anyway, I found my zippo lighters & decided I should get them back in working order to be a good host. And I can use them for general flame lighting as we all do from time to time.

Home Depot near me doesn't carry zippo fluid, and I didn't feel like running around to find it, so I ordered 2x12 oz from Amazon.

It got delivered today... At 2 pm... To my black mailbox... On the hottest day of the year - 108 F.

I got the package out at 3:30. Upon opening the box, the cans were very hot - not too hot to touch, but I'm a BBQ guy who touches hot things all the time, so who knows. Immediately put into the fridge. My IR probe tells me it's 142 F inside the mailbox.

Maybe next time I'll drive around to buy zippo fluid.

I get mine at Walgreens or CVS if I'm not near the tobacco shop.

Especially since 3 neighbors' mailboxes are in the same cluster.

Yeah it would have been a "cluster something".

I think it's good that you were cautious but at 142 F there's a minutely higher risk than just normal handling risk. They wouldn't be shipping the stuff if the packaging couldn't withstand those temperatures. The auto ignition temperature of lighter fluid is 500 F so there's still some safety margin there.
