After competing, judging, table captaining and all related KCBS contest functions, I've started training to be a contest official. Two weeks ago, I had class number 1 in Plant City, Florida. It was more difficult than I ever expected it to be! I trained with 3 of KCBS' best contest reps and learned (and worked) very hard.
I'll have to RAT (rep apprentice trainee) for 4 contest. I've done Plant City, next will be Las Vegas (December 12-13), then Young Harris, GA (February 6-7, 2015) and I'll finish up in Washington, MO (April 17-18, 2015). After that, if accepted into the rep corps, I'll be on probation for 4 more contests. I've picked my RAT events very carefully. I want to train with reps that I respect and know (as a cook and a judge) that run a quality contest.
Hope our paths cross out on the contest trail!
