The Pit's First Ever Virtual BBQ Competition

    Idea
To have some fun with our cooking while we are all stuck inside and see what sort of creativity the Pit can come up with during the lockdown. I got the idea from my local Home & Garden store, but thought I would add a bit to it. And to make it a proper competition, there have to be prizes as well. Assuming we actually have 3 people, or more, competing, here’s what I’ve got

First place - Killer Hogs Rubs - Brisket, BBQ, AP
Second Place - 2 pack of Blues Hog sauce
Third Place - Steven Raichlen’s "Barbecue Sauces"

Of course, there have to be judges, too. I enlisted the help of CaptainMike and Mr. Bones. The three of us will vote independent of each other and then I will collect all the voting and tabulate the scores.

    Rules
    • The cook has to be a new one done between April 27 and May 10 (gives you two full weeks)
    • You get 5 pictures to show us what you did
      • 1 picture must be a before shot
      • 1 picture must be the food plated and ready to eat
      • 1 picture must include the grill, bbq, cooker used with food on it
      • 1 picture must include you :-)
    • You get 300 words to explain your cook
    • Judges aren’t eligible to compete
    • You can choose anything to be your main dish as long as it is cooked over live fire, outside: charcoal, pellets, wood, propane, natural gas .... an outdoors cook using a grill, bbq, camp stove, hog pit, whatever.

    Judging

100 points total will be awarded
    • Food quality and appearance - 40 points
    • Cook description: Method and Reproducability - 40 points
    • Creativity - 20 points
Make sure to tag the judges in your write up so that we know about it :-)

Here's the actual thread for submitting your entry: https://pitmaster.amazingribs.com/fo...tition-entries

OMG, hahahahaha!!! A fella on a FB grilling and smoking site I follow recently asked if anyone had a recipe for for smoking a coon. I would have loved directing him to your AR post.

I will give it a go. Do we post on this thread or do we start a separate thread for each cook?

If that’s the case then may I suggest some naming/prefix scheme so they can easily be found/compared? Or just create ONE thread with the actual comp. entries.

Flamed grilled P&J, OH my it is very tasty. It happened on a camping trip. Busy with friends and got pranked. Someone slipped in a P&J sandwich with the Ham and Cheese I was grilling for the group.

I'm afraid to compete with you guys/gals - don't think I'd stand a chance. What is meant by "live fire"? Does charcoal count? Are pellet cookers considered "live fire"? Are we talking open flame?
