Man same thing happened to me on a slightly used 22" Performer that the guy was "giving" away for $80. I was bride's maid as well

That's the only way you can do it. I had a guy call me within 5 mins of posting a CL ad for an old truck I was selling, told him he could have it for the selling price. A second guy calls 5 mins later, offering me more money. I said he could have it if the other guy fell through; wrong answer. Both guys showed up and a near fight ensued, had to threaten to get my pistol. Tell guy #1 it's his and blow off the others.

CL just got to be too much of a hassle. I swear if you'd post something for free people would offer you half that! Donations and tax write offs have been working just fine for me. We donated one of our high mile trucks we use for our business to the local animal shelter. They were thrilled and we got a nice tax deduction.

A few months back I saw a nice old red Weber pop up on FB Marketplace for $25. It is from '79 but looked nearly brand new. I messaged the lady and she said I was #10 in line. Offered her $40 if I could come pick it up today and she said yes. So maybe offering him an extra $20 will let you jump the line?
