I too, have had my Oldest PBC about 8+ years. I am now over 600 cooks on it ( I fully recorded each cook in till I was at 525 or so) and it instill going strong. The bottom is somewhat weaker, and having not used a basket bottom with it (they had of come out yet -so I just continued without one. I have two newer ones with basket bottoms on and even though the oldest only has about 200 cooks on it, I can tell the basket bottom has been helpful in keeping the barrel bottom in better shape.

I have been wondering how long I have had my PBC and this post has the last straw. I had to know so I looked for my order confirmation. I bought my PBC in July of 2013!!! She is STILL going strong but the bottom is starting to look like it might rust out soon. Im hoping to get a few more years out of it though. Ill have to get a photo of the beautiful "seasoning" that 8 years has given me =).

How to find your PBC's birthday...
I discovered this when I was cleaning my PBC the other day. On recent models (perhaps just the porcelain-coated ones?), near the edge on the bottom is a date stamp. I actually may be easier to read when looking at the bottom with the barrel turned upside-down.
Here's mine: August 26, 2019.
I feel like I should do at least ribs on that date.Tags: None
