I tried it a few times. It works, just with some caveats. Everything you cook afterwards in the pan, at least for several cooks, will be coffee flavored. You still have to deal with the chaff so you probably want to dump them afterwards into a colander and shake vigorously. On my first batch I over roasted as I couldn’t hear the 1st or 2nd cracks very well. I now use a Behmor but a popcorn popper does really well too.

I'm also a Behmor user. I started with a whirley pop on the stove. It worked okay but the smoke in the kitchen was a little much. I think something like that would also work okay on a grill. It's cheap enough to find out.

Weber Kettle 22; Broil King Signet; OKJ Bronco
If you have a rotisserie, you can add a drum to it: https://www.amazon.com/MAYMII-Roaste.../dp/B01JRTRZNO There are several other options.
Actually, this is one of the cheaper ones I've seen. There are some high end ones out that that are presumably better made but cost in the hundreds.

Motors are also available:
some of these outfits get crazy expensive:

Yeah, that's what made me decide it wasn't worth it. If I could use the same motor, spit, and grill then it sounded fun. If I have to spend $100 nevermind. I hear electric popcorn poppers work too and you can get those for cheap at the second-hand store.

I spent 3 months in Kansas City two blocks down from a Folgers plant.
I love the smell of coffee, but not enough to want to roast it within two blocks of anything I like.
