The wife and I are now fans of cocktails circa late 1800s and early 1900s cocktails. For this one we use Beefeater gin and Rothman & Winter Creme de Violette. It's a beautiful drink in appearance.

1 1/2 oz. Gin

3/4 oz. dry vermouth

1/4 oz. Creme de Violette

2 dashes Absinthe

2 dashes Orange bitters

You can leave out the Absinthe and still enjoy.

Combine ingredients into a mixing glass and stirl with ice for about 20 seconds, strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Here is cocktail aficionado Robert Hess demonstrating the newer version of the original recipe as above:

If you have difficulty obtaining Creme de Violette, Hi-Time Wine is a great source for mail order spirits and even with shipping may beat your local store quite a bit.

Hi-Time Wine Cellars is a family-owned retail store founded in 1957. We offer a huge selection of rare wines, spirits, beer, cigars and more.

Cheers!
