If any of you are in the Chicagoland area, would highly recommend checking out the Pit to Plate dinners or the BBQ classes that Jared and his team give at BBQ supply Co (formerly Rub's Backcountry BBQ) way up on the north side.
Always a good time, BYOB and very cheap for the experience/price - about $40/person for a full dinner (apps, usually 3 or 4 cuts of meat and dessert) and we usually leave with a container or two of leftovers too.
IMHO, better than smoque, consistent, a cool room/space, and you can but BBQ supplies there, definitely an under the radar BBQ spot if you're in the area.
