This place suddenly appeared on my radar via Instagram or Pinterest or wherever. So I bit, as it were….
We learned that this liquor store does have a small kitchen and makes sandwiches and stuff not unlike knock-off 7-11s. But, this BBQ pops up on Saturdays only. We arrived at 10:40 am and the line had already circled the liquor store. I placed our order at 11:45. That is not a typo. Brisket, spare ribs, mac and cheese, slaw. Came with kings Hawaiian rolls and pickles and slaw. Had I known, I would have ordered the beans. Pork from Compart Farms (Duroc). Beef from Creekstone and SRF.
They tout a central Texas style BBQ. I’ll agree. Nice, heavily peppered rub. Sauce was tangy and peppery. BF and I liked it.
Brisket. You can’t tell, but it is draped over the tiny fork. Using a knife to cut it was an insult to the brisket. I ate a few bites, then made a slider with a roll and dipped into the sauce. $20 per half pound
Spare ribs were a joke. Rub was nice enough, licked my fingers clean. But they were pretty much just “shiners”, all exposed bone except the little part that were “rib tips” still attached. $18 per half pound. We paid for bones. ☹️
Slaw was ok, nothing to write home about. Super crunchy like I like, but very one note.
Mac and cheese was dry and flavorless.
While we sat outside, I watched 6 cars pull up, walk in and pull away. I am guessing they saw the line and said, hell naw. Since the wait was so long, I bought a super lotto for tonight 🤞🏼
Will I go back? I dunno, I can do better for way less. $53 out the door, plus a $3 tops Chico and $5 lottery ticket.
