The mushroom in the middle must work for the gummint or a large corporation. They keep him in the dark and feed him...

        Amanita phalloides
Amanita phalloides, commonly known as the death cap, is a deadly poisonous basidiomycete fungus, one of many in the genus Amanita. Widely distributed across Europe, A. phalloides forms ectomycorrhizas with various broadleaved trees.

still not sure what it is!

Bad, bad juju if you forage for wild mushrooms. Widespread on the west coast, especially under live oaks.

We had a biology professor in college that was a mushroom expert. Aminata was mentioned by him many many times. He made many trips to the hospital to check on kids to see what mushroom that had ingested.

Imagine the trial & error it took through the centuries to figure out exactly which mushrooms we can eat. "You, I don't like you. You shall be on mushroom sampling duty henceforth!"

Maybe pigs and or dogs showed the way with noses and instincts...
I've read that Amanita was the party drug of choice in old old Russia for social gatherings of aristocrats that could last weeks in the bitter dark winter...the "rest of the story" is gross and pays respect to the peasants looking to get a share...it depends on Amanita toxins not being metabolized and thus passing through the body.
