Pit Viper - leave on or take off after cook?

For those that have Pit Vipers or other fans - do you always leave the fan installed on your grill when not using or remove and place for each use? I keep my grill covered but it’s definitely not 100% waterproof.

I always take it off. Ive learned the hard way with other stuff its not worth forgetting about it and having it get wet

My cooker is under a roof but I think I killed my old fan by leaving it on so now I take off my new one to avoid heat damage. If I thought I could leave it on and just close the vent I probably would.

I have one on my 22 and 26" kettles. I leave them on. The cookers do live under a large covered patio. I also don't use individual cooker covers. My oldest Pit Viper fan has been on my 22 for over two years now. No issues to date.

I always take mine off. Feels safer that way.

Using the Auber 2615 control unit with 10cfm fan. I leave the whole contraption attached except battery&adapter unit. It’s under a roof on patio but close to edge. Gets a little wet on occasion but no issues.

Off. High heat and humidity here in south Texas dictates all electronics come inside and safely put to bed.

Hard to argue with that logic. At the same time, I’m in southwest FL and it’s hot/humid everyday. I have zero science to back me up, but having done it both ways I’ve had no adverse results leaving outside, as long as out of direct sun/rain (much like pool, irrigation controls). I think the condensation from hot/cool, in/out can take a toll too. Freezing temps are a different story

Thanks, everyone. I will probably just keep inside with the fireboard to be on the safe side. I also hadn't thought about the freezing temps (I am in Ohio).
