An accidental experiment w/ SnS & DnG

I was grillin' a large chicken breast for us the other night when I noticed I had forgotten to put the DnG back before closing the lid. I normally only take it out to use the gas assist to light charcoal. So anyway, it was cruzin' along at 440* dome temp when I noticed, and had been holding steady there for a while. Just for fun I decided to lift the grate enough to put the DnG back. That forces the incoming air through the SnS and I figured that should raise the temp a bit, but how much? Temp went up to 485* dome temp and held there. Has anyone else tried this and did you get similar results?

The skin was crunchy like a potato chip, but it was still very tender and juicy.

Added some Brussels sprouts baked in bacon grease to round out the meal.

How long did it cook in total? and what is a DnG?

Total cook time was about 45 minutes. But I seared the skin over the hot coals, then applied the rub. The chicken then went on the cool side with the top closed.

Here's a link to the DnG. You don't have to use a DnG - foil over the grate works too, but the DnG is easier.

The Double Duty Kettle Grill Accessory that combines a griddle pan and drip pan for grilling. The Drip ‘N Griddle Pan – Deluxe lives up to its name….and more!

Yea same affect as using a vortex and tenting the entire bottom of the kettle outside the fire with foil. Can get as high as 500* in that puppy.
