Refilling a vortex to extend cooking time?

+1 on the Spinaker reply. Also helps if you have the Weber gourmet grate without the removable center grate. Makes refills a lot easier!

You should have enough fuel in the Vortex for multiple rounds. Of course, it depends on how hot you are cooking. Even at 400 F, you should have more than enough fuel for a few rounds.
If you need to add some coals, I would heat them in a chimney, give it a shake and dump the hot coals into the vortex.
Best of luck to you, my friend.

Refilling a vortex to extend cooking time?
I'm doing a cookoff for a people's choice BBQ contest coming up in a couple months. Just purchased a vortex so I can cook my chicken on the kettle. I have a couple questions for those of you with prior Vortex experience. Would I be able to do multiple batches of chicken with one load of charcoal in the vortex or will the heat produced only allow for a single batch to be cooked. #2, is there really a way to refill the vortex to extend cooking time?
My plan is to do chicken lollipops and I'm not for sure that I can fit all of them on the kettle in one batch.
Any input on the vortex would be greatly appreciated!Tags: None
