    Freezer Thermometer

Right now, the plan is to install this freezer (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insigni...?skuId=6385046 ) in the basement as a dedicated freezer for meat and ice. What would you guys recommend as a freezer thermometer/alarm? Ideally on that would alert us via app as we won’t be down there often to hear or see any alarms. I see Thermoworks has a bunch but none are wireless.

A Meater might work if it can broadcast through a closed refrigerator.

I bought an Acurite fridge/freezer alarm three years ago and I have been happy with it. The model I purchased has been replaced with a new version that I can't vouch for. It doesn't connect to an app, but according to the specs, the base station can be up to 75 feet from the sensors. The sensor in the freezer needs lithium batteries to operate properly at those temperatures. Best of all it is only $30+ and very simple to operate.

That makes a lot of sense. Definitely will consider.

We have an alarm on the garage fridge for power outages (used to have an issue with the GFCI getting tripped by one of the outdoor outlets). I don't have any problem hearing it in the house. I've also always heard the fire alarm beeping in the basement when its battery is low... The point being if it has a good alarm I'm not sure that the wireless option is really necessary.

Thermoworks makes some freezer thermometers with alarms.

I called them up (a first), and they couldn't really recommend anything if it was in the basement and not within earshot. I'm going to see if some of these receivers provide more of an alarm, so there's the potential to see/hear it from the kitchen.

For the alarms with the wireless base station, does the alarm or visual flashing occur just within the freezer or does it happen with the receiver? Better odds of us seeing an alarm if it is coming from the kitchen versus the basement.

I would look for one with a hi/low function.

I've seen recommendations for the Sensor push by some in the DIY dry aging crowd. Can't give you anything personal for backing, just that I've seen that one mentioned several times.

We've had a Temp Stick since summer of '17. Pricey but flawless. After losing almost $1K worth of meat due to a mechanical failure, pricey didn't seem all that pricey. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks everyone. I bought the Acurite one Spacecase after I was able to confirm the alarm sounded from the display unit. Amazon also gave me $20 bucks off for adding a debit card so score!
