How To Correctly Use A Thermometer

I know this article isn't brand new, but it is a technique that I'd not seem before.

That is pretty good. Usually I just poke around in different places; I'll try this out.

This technique is basically what I have been recommending for a long time. I first insert it close to the center and wait for the temp to rise 10* - 15*. Then I move the probe back and forth until I find the lowest temp. That's usually pretty close, but I still use a Thermopen to make sure the meat is cooked correctly.

"....a thermometer only works if you know where to stick it...."

I can't tell you how many times in my life I've been told where to stick it!

I'm told that a few times a day!

                This, lol.

Ill refrain from making any analogies to non cooking areas of life.

Thank you. After re-reading that post just now, I realize I left that pretty open to interpretation lol

klflowers Surely you have been around this group long enough to know not to do that.

And which one's the most reliable? There is a video in the article where the cook is using Kizen, I guess? And I thought about Weber as I am a fan of their equipment. Guys, which one of these would you recommend? https://grillguru.org/best-smoker-thermometer/

I suppose you weren't at the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes last night because you were signing up for Amazing Ribs? ;-)

Welcome Jeff. Check our our Thermometer Ratings & Reviews guide here: https://amazingribs.com/ratings-reviews/thermometers The left sidebar allows you to pick & choose which type of thermometer you're looking for, and then you can read our reviews on them. We can't comment on other sites' review methods and results. I do love the Maverick XR-50 though. Gets a Gold from me. Would be Platinum if it allowed alarm setting changes on the receiver.

+1 on the Maverick. I have others, but that is the one I almost always default to.
