    high temp silicon rings

I like the color rings Thermoworks is using with their new Signals. I've been looking around to see if I could find them to use with my Fireboard probes and so far I've had no luck. Anybody know where I might be able to locate them for purchase? I didn't see them listed on Thermoworks site and my searches on Amazon are less then inspiring.

    Thanks!

Look for dental, or surgical, instrument bands. They are made to be autoclaved and they hold up well to high heat. I’ve been using them for years.

I use bread twisty things on the jack end of the cable. The one with the twist is grate temp, without is meat.

Colored heat shrink tubing at the juncture of the wire and the probe, and then again at wire and jack.

I checked some surgical instrument ring marker sites and that silicone is only rated to 135°C or 275°F, so depending on where it is placed (not directly on probe inside cooker) it may work.

Google "Surgical Instrument Color Coding Bands" and a bunch pop up, including some on Amazon. But read the Amazon reviews carefully. Some are too rigid to work.

Good point. The ones I use are from boxes I purchased 35+ years ago when I started practicing and they aren’t the almost see-thru ones shown in the photo. I know mine have been on the probe in the cooker at 350 and haven’t shown any damage from that heat.

ThermoWorks has them for $2.99. https://www.thermoworks.com/high-temp-probe-rings

          I ordered 4-sets and shipping was $3.

"Included with Signals but also sold separately for other devices. These colorful probe rings are rated to 600°F (315°C). Put one on each end of a probe to help identify which probe is connected to which device while using multiple probes. Includes 2 blue, 2 red, 2 green, and 2 yellow probe rings, one for each end of up to four probes. Compatible with all ThermoWorks probes."

Just got my silicon rings in from Thermoworks. They were easy to install onto my Fireboard probes. Here are a few pictures to check out. I took the red probe for a test drive at 250ish degrees for a couple of hours. Click image for larger version

Awesome! Mine arrived but I’m out of town. I’ll be putting them on my XR-50 probes next week.
