    Thermometer use: Note To Self

hey Self: "don't put the grate probe too close to the cold meat. Cause if you do, you will wonder why your cooker won't get hotter than 200 degrees! Dummy."

At least things cooked at least a little faster.

Turns out that it was more like 275 once I repositioned the grate probe

I put a brisket on the smoker this morning. Put flat on, plugged in probe. Put point on, plugged in probe. Closed lid.

Found grate probe still on table.

I blame the fact that I had only about two sips of coffee to that point...

Dead air space, in a cooker, yep it is true.

Glad to know I am not alone in this. I sometimes find my meat probes dangling free outside the Recteq when I go out to investigate why I have no temp readings on my phone app. Usually a result of too many beers syndrome. 🙄🤷‍♂️

this morning was definitely not enough coffee syndrome. But sometimes too many beers syndrome kicks in

Seems like there is no level of expertise that prevents us making a noob mistake. Been there many a time. At least we can laugh about it.

Thanks for the PSA. There's nothing wrong with re-learning fundamentals now and again.

Oh yeah. You are certainly not the only one to do that over the years, my friend.

It’s better than having a shelved unit and leaving one on top of the BBQ! Someone I know very well did that once. Someone who looks just like me!

Thank goodness that’s all. I was afraid after your last PSA that we would be seeing a photo of you in the ER with bodily damage from a temperature probe.🙂
