    Okay, this is creepy.............

Let me say, I know this resulted from the choices I made during setup.........so it's all on me. But just the same, it's creepy.

I've got a variety of thermometers, but recently took advantage of a discount offer on a Meater + primarily to use on rotisserie cooks. Tonight we did a chicken on the spinning stick and the Meater did it's job. I will say I'm glad I got the + model because the connectivity is fairly short even with that. I enjoyed the info being available on my phone, and the info was accurate and helpful. The creepy part is that a couple hours later I get an email from the Meater company asking me for feedback on my satisfaction with using the device on the chicken I cooked tonight. Again, I get that the setup format I chose led to that.......................just seems a bit intrusive none the less. Ah, the modern age.........

And at the end of the email did it say "... and it looked really good."??

and it would have tasted better with a mixture of oak and mesquite over lump, instead of the briquettes you used.

Never briquettes here, only lump or sticks of hardwood. However, an apple tree did contribute some chunks on this one.

I wonder if you could trace that back to the FBI, CIA, and local police?
That is creepy. They are gathering info on you.

bbqLuv Reminds me of the old joke, "How do you apply to join the NSA? Just pick up any phone and ask for an application. They’re listening."

Truth is retargeting in the digital age is far more extensive than most realize. Everything you do on the internet is tracked for future possible intelligent interactive advertising based on your various online actions. Our company was managing a version of retargeting on a public facing website and when my sister who knew our company was doing this started receiving related web ads "Big Brother" took on a whole new meaning for her.

Hence all the "curated" collections of stuff. I guess that sounds better than "targeted."

And in the "more creepy?".........late last night I get an email from ThermoWorks saying something along the lines "we haven't heard from you in awhile", even though I bought another Mk4 on the color close out deal a couple weeks or so ago. I'm being stalked by the thermometer cartel.

Just be happy they are not aliens, I hear their probes aren’t for meat on the grill.

Your smartphone is tracking everything you do, pinging off towers to track you. It’s also listening. My wife went for a walk w a friend and they talked about "forest bathing". She’d never heard of it. It’s a fairly obscure topic. The next day we both got Facebook ads for forest bathing on our feed. Not much you can do about it. Maybe get a flip phone. IDK, it’s pretty hard to live and work in this modern world and be off the grid. 🤷‍♂️

Well, unless your vehicle is really old (pre ODB), it too is collecting and storing all manner of data/info. Brave New World stuff...................

This stuff is scary, my wife knows everything I window shop for as she gets Facebook ads for just about everything I search for. I disable every tracker setting I can find, block 3rd party cookies, etc. Where they’ve injected stuff to snoop is just mind boggling. Now I need to think of some fun stuff to search for to freak out the wife. She’s told me not to even think about it a couple times before I asked about buying something.

Big Brother actually captured that footage from my living room and transcribed the conversation they overheard onto it and posted it to the web. I probably have a basis for a lawsuit.

Haha. I'm still 80% convinced that the first generation BBQ Guru controller with WiFi that I had failed because it became infected with Stuxnet, causing it to ramp up fan speed even when the temp was fine. Another NSA project gone awry...

Yep. My wife uses the voice thing to search google on her phone. I have never used it - I type in my searches. So the other day in the car she picked up my phone to search for something, and I mentioned I had not enabled the voice search. She typed it in, we were looking for a restaurant, found it and clicked the google maps interface. A few minutes later, with the maps interface running, we were talking and google said "I did not understand that" or something similar. On my phone. That I thought I hadn’t enabled the voice app on.
