Antiquing for CI on Mothers day
Drove over almost 300 miles Sunday antiquing and looking for an old CI dutch oven. Had been to this one store muitiple times and where I found the my Wagner Gem pan. They have never had more than a dozen pieces of CI and 95 percent is china or unmarked in pretty poor condition. Found these 2 pieces right off and was suprised of the good condition of them. Not what I was looking for but decided to ask if he would take anything off the price. 25% right off the top. Had him hold for me while I looked around.
Griswold cornear bread pan and a Griswold 11 x 11 breadstick pan. Corn almost looks new clean and breadstick some surface rust.
Shop owner asked what I was looking for and I told him a manf marked dutch oven. He hung his head and said that he had just sold a Griswold like new condition one the day before. Said he had a box come in with some CI that I could look at if I wanted. Follwed him to back of store while my brother broused around looking for CI himself. At back of store he showed me two large boxes of CI and said that he would discount if I wanted more than the two I had already set aside. I could not believe what I was shown.
A 12 inch Griswold fry pan that only needs wiping out to use.
A 8 inch Griswold fry clean of rust but a couple of pits on cooking surface but not bad
A 10.5 inch Griswold griddle with a little surface rust on cooking surface.
A like new unmarked 8 inch 4 inch deep fry pan.
A S.P. & Co dutch oven/fry pan with feet, and has cast marks on bottom that would come in at early 1800s.
A Knox Stove Works dutch oven, a little rough but will clean up nice and should period out to 1800s also.
A excellent unmarked dutch fry pan really good shape.
Last but not least was a Griswold breakfast pan in almost new condition.
He had 3 more Griswolds, a 10, 12, and 8 but had to leave on shelf. I spied several other pans I wanted but enough for today. Never seen that many pans together at one time in this condition. Owner said they just showed up just in last couple days. Luckly for me. Brother found another Griswold corn bread pan but not in as good of a condition but also half the price because it was unmarked for price and they priced it the same as the generic ones on the same shelf, sweet deal.
Guess I could say that I went looking for possibly one pan in rough shape only to find 9 in really excelent shape. Dutch oven and covered frys will need some work but rest of frys just need cleaned and light reseason. Talk about MCS, of course this could be called a massive attack of CIS "cast iron syndrome". All in all they marked almost 35% off all prices.. SWEET.
Then drove home.
Brother sent me these links after I got home and do not know if you all have ever seen them.

Thats what I did today. not all but the most interesting thing.
Hope you all had a good Mothers day.

Finally got the Knox dutch oven finished. The bottom had lots of rust but hidden by a heavy coating of heavy oil/Lard. Ran through the electrolysis bath and also had to actually to use scotch brit on a drill to remove the years of burnt food build up in the bottom of pan. Here are the pictures of the top after seasoning and the bottom before electrolysis and after seasoning with flaxseed oil.
