In California you can go through some really dry spells trying to find cast iron, but finally broke through. Garage sale finds...

        - Griswald #8 Dutch in near perfect condition with trivot.

        - Wagner Sidney -O- aluminum roaster

I wasn't sure about the Wagner but couldn't pass it up because cast iron ovals are super expensive. Everything aluminum is now anodized, and as far as I can tell the same rules apply as cast iron...no tomato, vinegar or citrus. Anyone out there use these bare aluminums?

You have a killer skillet collection Spin! My local Costco is selling Oxtail so am planning to break in my new find with a stew. Gonna give them a quick sear over the PK then finish in the dutch oven.

That sounds fantastic Larry. Shoot us a few pictures of the cook, if you get the chance. Larry Grover

The rubber on the bottom of our stainless steel dog bowl was at the end of its ropes. Kent Rollins was right...defective or non collectible pieces make good dog bowls.

Here big boy is enjoying his new Wagner #8 unmarked skillet, lightly coated with bacon grease.

          You've got that right!

Can anyone tell me what's up with this estate sale find? It appears to be an old Lodge because of the 3 notches in the rear. However, its marked 9X at 12 o'clock and there appears to be no "Made in the USA" marking.

All similar vintage Lodge ridged skillets I've seen are marked 9TB with the "USA" marking.

Spinaker Thanks, so if I have this correct the 9 = size and the "X" is a style identifier? So in this case the style ID apparently changed to "TB" post 1960.

The "9" refers to the burner size that was on the stove. Back in the day they made stoves and they would sell you pans to fit certain burners on the stove. The notches and heat ring on the bottom would allow the pan to set into the recessed notch that went around the burner. "X" and "TB" would refer to a specific cooktop lay out.

        Larry Grover

That is an old Lodge. Pre-1960's, when they started marking "Made in USA" on all their pans.

Nice find! The three notches are indicative of Lodge pans. As is the number at 12 O'Clock.

They are great pans! You will love it.

A local Craigslist seller is selling these. They look interesting with griddle tops...designed by Michael Lax for Nacco (Copco) made in Denmark around 1960. Any idea how much you'd pay for the set?

If anything some good cast iron porn...

I am not familiar with these particular pieces, but they look like they are in greet shape. What are they asking for them?

Spinaker He wants $350 for all 3. Too steep for me but he's had them posted for awhile so I'm sure he'll bargain.

It is tough to tell what they are worth. They are in great shape, but I would pass at that price. Maybe offer a low ball offer and see what he says, if it has been up for a while, maybe he wants to get it moved.

Mother asked me to strip and re season her old BSR. First pic is my cheapo (but works) electrolysis setup. Second is the pan after 2 rounds in the oven with avocado oil. Ready to go in for its third cycle.
